The actor, who sustained a seriously mangled mitt in a rollover accident, is not in danger of losing any of his digits, E! News has confirmed.

LaBeouf’s rep is shooting down a Star magazine report claiming the 22-year-old actor informed his Transformers producers that he needed to have his pinky finger amputated.

It’s a “completely fabricated story,” LaBeouf publicist Melissa Kates tells E! News.

The Indiana Jones star’s hand was injured when his Ford pickup flipped in a late-night accident last month. “Shia’s left hand was crushed and will need regular medical supervision until his doctors clear him to return to work,” LaBeouf’s attorney, Michael Norris, said at the time.

LaBeouf has been spotted sporting a cast over his damaged wing…pinky and all.

“Shia called producers yesterday and told them,” the source on the set in Alamogordo, N.M. says. “It’s really thrown the movie into turmoil.”

Shia, 21, mangled his hand when his SUV rolled over twice in a July 27 accident in West Hollywood. He was cited for DUI although cops say they do not believe the accident was his fault.

A request for comment from Shia’s rep was not answered at press time.

This past May, two weeks before “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” opened worldwide, George Lucas told reporters at the Cannes Film Festival that he already had an idea for a possible “Indiana Jones V,” and that it centered, not on Dr. Henry Jones, but on his son, Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeouf).

Three knife-flipping, tree-swinging, accident having months later and that idea? It’s kind of, well, “Nuked the Fridge,” Lucas told MTV News.

Asked whether he still considered Mutt Williams a strong enough character to drive an “Indiana Jones” film, Lucas was adamant that Indy just isn’t Indy without Indy. Or, to put it another way: No.

“Indiana Jones is Indiana Jones. Harrison Ford IS Indiana Jones,” Lucas said, dismissively adding about a character he helped create that, “If it was Mutt Williams it would be ‘Mutt Williams and the Search for Elvis’ or something.”

It’s unclear what changed Lucas’s mind about the character, or whether he would necessarily return at all – even in a sidekick capacity. That said, “The Search for Elvis” is hilarious.

Of course, talk of an eventual “Indiana Jones V” is something of a giant hypothetical anyway, even as Lucas continued to stroke the fire of anticipation at his Big Rock Ranch near San Francisco, insisting that work IS being done to find a suitable object for another installment.

“We ARE looking for something for him to go after,” Lucas said. “They are very hard to find. It’s like archeology. It takes a huge amount of research to come up with something that will fit.”

So let’s give Lucas some ideas. The Fountain of Youth? The Rod of Moses? The Quest for Atlantis? What would you like to see Indy search for in a Part V? And would you want Mutt Williams to be a part of that journey? Sound off below.

Hollywood’s youngest superstar isn’t in it for the glory, the fame, or even the women—he’s in it to make truckloads of money.

If you ever have reason to meet Shia LaBeouf, you should be prepared to be addressed as “boss.” Or “bro,” or “man,” or “baby,” or possibly “son,” depending on how much you know about hip-hop. “Hey, boss,” LaBeouf says to the guy behind the counter at a Santa Monica restaurant one afternoon in late May, “is it cool if we just get a couple of coffees and sit outside?”

It’s hard to tell whether the waiter recognizes him. LaBeouf is doing reshoots for this month’s Eagle Eye, directed by D.J. Caruso—it’s a highbrow thriller about two Americans framed as political assassins by a terrorist cell—so he has a little more scruff than usual, and with his cap pulled down far enough he could be any underemployed L.A. actor getting his caffeine fix. He’s wearing skinnyish black jeans, a threadbare Emerson, Lake & Palmer T-shirt, and beat-up brown Nike Cortezes. His girlish eyelashes, cheeks, and mouth are obscured by the beard and the cap, which makes him look older than he does in the YouTube video that made the rounds in the spring—the one of him drunkenly calling his friend a “faggot” and begging to be slapped in the face. But LaBeouf’s swagger—the “boss”ing and “man”ing—suggests fresh confidence, the kind that comes from having recently had your name attached to two blockbuster franchises. It also suggests some defensiveness. That “faggot” video, plus a misdemeanor arrest and a few other glancing blows this year to his still-developing image, has made him zip himself up a little tighter. While once he publicly joked about his regrettable movie choices, like Dumber and Dumberer, and break-danced with abandon for Craig Kilborn, LaBeouf is more inhibited now, more likely to use terms like role model.

Shia LaBeouf’s hand was “crushed” in the wreck that flipped his truck last weekend, and he still runs the risk of infection and other complications after a four-hour surgery, his lawyer said Friday.

The 22-year-old actor was injured in a late-night crash last Sunday in West Hollywood that authorities have since said was the fault of the other driver. The statement from lawyer Michael Norris said the driver may have been speeding and not paying attention.

LaBeouf was hospitalized and cited for drunken driving in the wreck, the impact of which flipped his truck after he tried to make a left turn around 3 a.m.

“Shia’s left hand was crushed,” read a statement released to The Associated Press on Friday from Michael Norris, a lawyer for the “Indiana Jones” actor. It added that LaBeouf’s left arm was immobilized and that the production of the “Transformers” sequel has been modified to accommodate his recovery.

The actor has been recovering at a Los Angeles hospital since the surgery and “will need regular medical supervision until his doctors clear him to return to work,” Norris’ statement said. “We are hopeful that this return will be sooner rather than later.”

LaBeouf and his attorneys have cooperated with police, the statement said, adding that “the Sheriff’s Department has now released information that the other vehicle ran the red light while striking Shia’s truck.”

Norris also said independent investigators “received information that suggests that the other driver may have been traveling upwards of 50 miles per hour, and that said driver may not have been looking forward at the time of the accident.”

Sheriff’s officials have said they won’t release the other driver’s name until after a report is issued, which could take a few weeks while the official investigation is conducted. On Tuesday, sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said LaBeouf was not at fault and that the other driver apparently ran a red light.

“We are very appreciative, again, of the patience that everyone has shown us, and of the many concerned citizens who have stepped forward to provide information regarding this collision,” the statement continued, adding that anyone with information about the accident was urged to call Norris directly.

LaBeouf’s credits include “Transformers,” “Disturbia” and “Bobby.” He can next be seen in the thriller “Eagle Eye,” due next month.

Shia LaBeouf could have a long road before him as he recovers from the accident that crushed his hand, his lawyer says.

LaBeouf, 22, was injured in a late-night crash last Sunday in West Hollywood that flipped his truck. The “Indiana Jones” star was cited for drunken driving, but authorities have since said he was not at fault, and that the other driver apparently ran a red light.

Michael Norris, LaBeouf’s attorney, said in a statement Friday LaBeouf underwent four hours of surgery. His left arm remains immobilized from the elbow down.

“He will need regular medical supervision until his doctors clear him to return to work,” Norris said in the statement. “His doctors remain hopeful that he will fully recover, but due to extensive surgery and the nature of the injuries, there remains a substantial risk of both infection and other complications.”

Photos posted on entertainment blogs Friday showed the actor wearing jeans, a ballcap and a T-shirt missing one sleeve as he smoked a cigarette outside the Los Angeles hospital where he has been recovering since the surgery. Bandages and a brace cover his left arm, leaving only his pinkie finger exposed.

LaBeouf has been filming the “Transformers” sequel, “Revenge of the Fallen.” Director Michael Bay said the injury may be added to the script.

“His two fingers are pretty smashed, but we’re figuring out a way to shoot around it, kind of write it into the story,” Bay told “Access Hollywood” in an interview airing Friday.

Bay claimed his leading man was not drunk at the time of the crash and insisted that “that’s gonna go away.”

“He was drinking hours and hours before,” Bay told the syndicated entertainment show.

LaBeouf’s passenger in the accident was Isabel Lucas, a 23-year-old Australian actress who appears in the “Transformers” sequel. She was not injured.

Sheriff’s officials have said they won’t release the other driver’s name until the official investigation is completed and a report is issued, which could take weeks.

LaBeouf’s attorney said the actor has cooperated with police and that independent investigators “received information that suggests that the other driver may have been traveling upwards of 50 miles per hour, and that said driver may not have been looking forward at the time of the accident.”

LaBeouf has more than a dozen film credits, including last summer’s blockbuster “Transformers,” which grossed more than $700 million worldwide. Steven Spielberg was a producer on the first “Transformers” (and is again for the sequel), and he cast LaBeouf as Harrison Ford’s son in “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” — a sought-after role in which LaBeouf evoked the look and attitude of a young Marlon Brando.

LaBeouf can next be seen in the thriller “Eagle Eye,” due next month.

Troubled star Shia LaBeouf has lashed out at the paparazzi, feeling that their violation of privacy has destroyed the mystery of Hollywood, WENN reports.

The Transformers star was in a car crash this past Sunday, and paparazzi leeched the situation from the first minute. LaBeouf, who was hospitalized and is now facing drinking and driving charges, feels that the press need to lay off not only him, but stars in general.

He has theorized that every time he sets foot into the world, he feels like he may as well be in a movie. “You learn that the show starts when you open your door; the show stops when you close your door and you’re always on.”

LaBeouf feels the paparazzi are ruining what makes Hollywood magical to begin with. “The paparazzi is the bad press. . . . It’s kinda killing the mystery of what Hollywood used to be. That’s why actors were so appealing; they had this mystery. . . . They were magical.”
The full story appears in the September 2008 issue of Details (on newsstands Monday, August 5th), and an extended version of the interview will be posted here tomorrow (Wednesday, July 30). Below is an exclusive preview:

The script rarely gets away from LaBeouf. It got away from him in Chicago last November, when a late-night nicotine jones ended in that trespassing charge. (”It was two hotheads,” he says, “one completely in the wrong, one who wasn’t enjoying his job that night, going at it about minuscule bullshit.”) And the glee with which the mainstream news media, itching for a YOUNG ACTOR FLAMES OUT headline, seized on it led to the end of one of his and his father’s longtime bonding rituals. “We would drink together and smoke together,” LaBeouf says, “and it’s just a bad deal. It’s not something that is conducive to being a role model—no iconic actors that I know of have problems like that. And I don’t know how to do it like a gentleman. I don’t know how to have one drink.”

Check back here tomorrow for an extended version of Details’ cover story on Hollywood’s baddest boy.
